Whether you’re spiritually inclined, wellness-focused, or simply looking for some relaxed recreation in-between all the hectic sightseeing, a yoga class is the perfect way to unwind on your trip to Bali. On this island, yoga is everywhere – and, we literally mean everywhere – from yoga retreats and yoga studios to yoga shops, wellness institutions, yoga cafes and yogic spas.

Although it originated in India, yoga is widely practiced in Bali as well, due to its strong cultural and religious roots in Hinduism. Bali offers the perfect balance of connecting with world-class instructors, yet giving you the option to retreat in solitude when you crave some privacy. Not only is it great for seasoned practitioners looking for a wellness-based vacation, but it’s a good place for beginners to pick up the nuances of yoga and serves as a great entry point to their wellness pursuits.

You can’t really escape the lure of yoga when you’re in Bali – so why not strap on your yoga pants, take a deep breath, say ‘Om’, and give in to the serenity? Even though Ubud and Canggu are the main hubs for yoga in Bali, the upscale locality of Seminyak also offers plenty of options for the discerning traveller. You can either book a class in advance, or simply walk in to them.

We’ve picked out the best yoga studios in Seminyak, and why you should go to them.

1. Seminyak Yoga Shala

Set right in the heart of Seminyak, this yoga shala (meaning ‘school’ in Hindi) is hard to miss, no matter where in Seminyak you’re staying. Seminyak Yoga Shala is Bali’s only studio offering Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga, which is the oldest dynamic form of yoga.

Apart from this, you’ll also find Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi, and meditation classes here. The yoga class is held in a completely enclosed room, which makes it both noise- and mosquito-free. Yoga practitioners are provided with non-slip yoga mats, water and hand towels.

2. Yoga At Woosky

The W hotels aren’t exactly known for their wellness facilities, but this one is different. The W at Bali holds yoga classes twice a week for those looking for a rejuvenating experience in between all that hectic activity. Held on the rooftop terrace of Woobar, known as Woosky, the views from this place are stupendous – think waves crashing on the shore on one side and the W’s lush green manicured gardens on the other.

Classes are held for 75 minutes every Saturday (7am to 8.15am) and 60 minutes every Sunday (sunset yoga from 5pm to 6pm) and include a morning booster shot and mineral water. Also included in the package is the complimentary use of spa facilities, such as the Hot Stone, Cold Plunge, Hamam and Detox Chamber. If this isn’t an even trade-off, what is?
