Seminyak’s Best Beach Clubs
Seminyak is undoubtedly one of the classiest areas in all of Bali. With its designer boutiques, trendy café culture, chic hotels, and fancy bars, this is the place you stay at if you want a glitzy Balinese vacation. Whether you’re travelling as a couple or with a group of friends, Seminyak is the place to be.
The best way to glam up your Balinese vacation? Chilling at a beach club, of course. White sands, stunning sea views, delicious food, designer cocktails, and glittering infinity pools – Seminyak’s beach clubs have it all.
So whether you want to unwind after a hard day of sightseeing or spend a day just bumming around with a cocktail in hand, a beach club is your answer. Here are our picks of the best beach clubs in Seminyak to spend a day in – just remember to book that sun lounger.
1. Ku De Ta
Undoubtedly the most popular and glamorous of all beach clubs, Ku De Ta is a Bali original. Opened all the way back in the year 2000, when Seminyak was nothing more than a fishing village, it is now a regular haunt for both tourists and locals. Located at the end of Eat Street (also known as Jalan Oberoi), this iconic beach club is known for its expansive ocean views, large central lawn, and infinity pool.
This is a two-storey building with a simple, tasteful and elegant vibe, discreet attentive service, cutting edge-design and architecture, and a roster of big name artists. It’s especially known for its finger-licking food, delicious cocktails, and vast array of international performers.
Ku De Ta opens at 8am and is well-known for its relaxed breakfasts, comfort food lunches, and haute cuisine dinners. In the evenings, the resident DJs spin some invigorating tunes, and they also release their compilations so you can take it home with you.
While you can walk in to Ku De Ta any time, keep an eye out during high-season as the club tends to get packed, especially during the annual Bikini Day party and famously legendary White Party.
2. Potato Head Beach Club
Another Bali favourite, this one is known for its sexy vibe and even sexier crowd. The first thing you notice here is the unusual façade – it’s unique and elliptical, and made up of thousands of multi-coloured shutters. But get in, and it will be the wide ocean view that will impress you, with a large infinity pool on the edge of a beach surrounded by lounge chairs. There’s also a large manicured garden and a choice of three restaurants, serving Asian inspired tapas, bistro style dishes and gourmet dining.
But that’s not what Potato Head is known for. This beach club, offering some of the best sunset views in all of Bali, is a hedonistic playground for partygoers. World-famous DJs and artists have performed here, including names such as MIA, Fatboy Slim, Mark Ronson, and Foster The People. During such gigs, makeshift stages are set up over the pool, on the beach, and basically anywhere there’s place.
On other days, it’s a relaxed day scene, with some of the best cocktails on offer. We suggest you get here early by 11am and book a daybed if you intend to lounge around all day, as the place gets packed very soon. What starts off as a laid-back morning fast becomes a groovy afternoon with some cool tunes, ultimately culminating into a thumping dance party scene by the evenings.
3. Cocoon Beach Club
Located in the hip Double Six part of Seminyak, Cocoon is instantly recognisable thanks to its massive blue infinity pool, which serves as a centrepiece of the beach club. Unwind in the sun loungers strategically placed around the pool, as the resident DJs spin mellow tunes. You have the option of grabbing a snack or a light bite, sunbathing, or even getting a spa massage in one of their poolside cabanas.
The cocktails here are worth a mention, and what makes the deal sweeter is the fact that Cocoon offers happy hours from 4pm to 7pm every day, where you get a 1+1 on drinks. Come evening though, and the place transforms into a fancy fine dining restaurant serving Mediterranean and Asian dishes. The pool is suddenly drenched in neon colours, and the stylish décor and flickering candles all give it an air of sophistication.
If you’re a party fiend, look out for the last Sunday of the month when a Splash Party is held to give a vibrant party vibe.
4. Woobar at W Hotel
A modern alfresco beach bar inside the stylish W Hotel, Woobar affords spectacular ocean views, has a large pool with beanbags and sun chairs around it, and serves delicious tapas-style food. This is a favourite haunt of international DJs, who spin some groovy tunes for you to kick back with a cocktail and enjoy. It’s also the place where you go to people watch, as the island’s well-heeled and wealthy come here.
Sit back with a shisha on one of the sun loungers and watch the sun set in all its orange hued glory. Or you can go down to the Woobase, if you want a dance floor, or sip whisky in an underground room.
Woobar hosts sunset sessions every week, from 4pm to 10pm, where international DJs spin catchy tunes with gorgeous sunset views. And on weekends, the night is still longer, with DJs starting at 10pm and going on till 4am.
5. Alila Beach Bar
Located in the spanking new Alila Seminyak resort, Alila Beach Bar offers stupendous ocean views, soft music, and top-shelf signature cocktails. This is the newest kid on the beach club block, and has firmly made its presence felt in the short time it’s been here. This chic bar also affords some of the finest sunset views on the island, and is a breezy spot for unwinding under the sun and stars.
The food menu is largely Middle Eastern, although you will find the ubiquitous burgers, sandwiches, and pastas. It’s the drinks menu that’s worth talking about, though – we loved the sparkling and refreshing #AlilaMoments (passionfruit puree and champagne), and the spicy Coco Django (kaffir lime, lemongrass, red chilli, and sweet tropical fruit).
6. La Laguna
Set on the border of Seminyak and Canggu, La Laguna is a beach club with a difference. The verdant and well-lit gardens are boho-chic and gypsy-inspired, with bean bags sprawled all over the area. The brainchild of Spanish gypsies Gonzalo and Sandra Assiego, La Laguna leads down to a lagoon and also faces a beach.
The colourful gypsy caravans are truly unique in Bali, and the food is Mediterranean inspired, with tapas, soups, and chargrilled rib-eye. La Laguna also serves some specialty cocktails, such as La Favella Breeze and Tropical Lagoon. Don’t go here if you want to party all day – this is a more relaxed, chilled-out scene for those who want to take in the environs and simply let loose.
7. Mrs Sippy
A play on the word, Mississippi, this is a cool pool party venue. So what if it’s not set by the beach? Mrs Sippy has created its own salt water pool, the largest on the island, and also its own white sand. The 800-metre pool is filled with floats and has three diving platforms at one end – the only such pool in Bali.
You’ll find Mediterranean-themed parasol-shaded sun loungers, green lawns and coconut palms around the pool, from which you can pick a spot to chill. The DJ usually spins tropical house or EDM tunes and the cocktail selection is legendary.
The open-air kitchen boasts fresh, locally sourced produce using traditional wood firing techniques. Expect pizzas (the quattro formaggi is divine), burgers, and BBQ pork ribs here. There are also pool and ping-pong tables for those who want to indulge in some sport. The club has happy hours from Monday to Friday (5pm to 6pm), where you’ll get 1+1 deals on spirits, slushies and Bintangs.
