What’s So Awesome About It

A hidden beach in Rawai, the Laem Ka Beach is the only eastern-facing beach in the south of Phuket where you can go swimming. Its shallow and calm waters are safe for kids to splash around while the adults can spend some quiet time by the sea.

You can do some beach shopping at the small shops right at the beach or just laze on one of the beach chairs under the palm trees. Beer, soft drinks, or fresh coconut water are available through vendors. Moreover, the pristine backdrop of white sands with calm azure waters makes for lovely photo opportunities.

What’s The Catch

Laem Ka is a small beach of about 200 meters with not much activity to do. The access to the beach can be difficult, as there is a steep concrete staircase leading to the beach area. The sign at the entrance says that entry to the beach is prohibited, although entry seems to be tolerated. The beach may be closed during the low season and you may not find even vendors or restaurants.

Should You Stay There

Since Laem Ka Beach is secluded, you won’t find many hotels and places with ease-of-access there. Instead, you should stay at Rawai or Nai Harn at one of the mid-range or cheap hotels and drive down to Laem Ka to spend a day there.

How To Get There

From Rawai, head towards the Shell museum and you will see a 7-Eleven. Drive through one kilometre of coconut plantations. From the car park area, you will be able to reach the beach by walking down a steep concrete staircase.

Pro Tip

Wear comfortable footwear that will allow you to walk through the rocky path. You can pick up some snacks on the way to the beach, if you don’t want to eat a meal at the restaurant.
