With two prominent peaks and a river running through them, Khao Khanab Nam Mountains is one of the prominent landmarks of Krabi. Add an intricate cave system with collections of stalagmites and stalactites and a hiking trail, you have found a place that is definitely worth exploring.
What’s So Awesome About It
A picturesque river penetrates two huge mountains, providing a natural gateway to Krabi Town and a picture-perfect scene, particularly at sunset. Options to experience these two iconic mountains are either winding your way through the spiritual, stalagmite-ridden caves beneath the surface, or climbing to the summit of one of the two mountains. The caves are also home to cave paintings and, with a guide, you can hear the stories of ancient human skeletons found within.
What’s The Catch
There is no public transport to the mountains and the only way to reach them is getting a longtail boat from Chaofa Pier in Krabi Town. If you plan on climbing the mountain, please be aware that a decent level of fitness is required as it is all up a steep hill in the heat. The caves are incredibly atmospheric, but if you suffer from claustrophobia, it’s not a good idea to visit.
Things To Keep In Mind
If you’re visiting the mountains up close, there are no shops or restaurants in the area, so make sure you bring plenty of water for a hike and pack a picnic too.
How To Reach There
Khao Khanab Nam is reached by chartering a longtail boat from Krabi’s Chaofa Pier which takes around 15 minutes.
Include a visit to a local mangrove forest and take a look at Koh Klang fishing village as part of your longtail boat trip and make a full day of it.
