Krabi’s splendid coastline, dense mangroves, limestone cliffs and spectacular beaches make it a natural favourite when it comes to planning a Thailand trip.

Being a part of mainstream Thai tourism, Krabi has plenty of areas to set up camp and explore the rest of the region. So how do you decide which place is best suited for you? You only need to look at our comprehensive guide to the best areas to stay in Krabi.

For couples and families: Ao Nang

Ao Nang is the most popular area in Krabi, courtesy its close proximity to Ao Nang beach, the most popular beach in town. It has tonnes of great accommodation options, shopping avenues and fine dining restaurants.

Why should you stay here?

The big advantage of staying here is the accessibility. Both from the airport and to other parts of Krabi.

Where’s the catch?

Being the most popular place, it’s quite crowded and touristy. And since it’s the commercial hub, it has lost a bit of its local appeal.

Recommended Hotels

Value for Money

  • Sugar Marina Resort-Cliffhanger: An excellent value for money choice with clean rooms, comfortable beds, gorgeous pools and a great breakfast spread.
  • Apple A Day Resort: It’s a great resort with the perfect location, a short walk from Ao Nang beach and the main street. The rooms are lovely and the pools are clean. The resort will also help you with getting bikes on rent.

Premium Experience

  • Aonang Cliff Beach Suites and Villas: Featuring well-furnished rooms along with a fabulous infinity pool, Aonang Cliff Beach Suites and Villa is an excellent choice, especially for couples. The private balconies offer an amazing sea view. You can easily spend a day just lounging on a deckchair.
  •  Holiday Inn Resort: A great family oriented resort, especially if you are travelling with kids. With a kids club filled with toys, ball pit and jungle gym, your little ones are bound to be occupied, which leaves you to enjoy the pleasant experience the resort offers.

For Honeymooners, Couples & Families: Railay Beach

Railay is nothing less than a slice of paradise, and we are not even exaggerating. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, with grand limestone cliffs in the background, it presents quite a pretty picture, perfect for your next holiday card.

Why should you stay here?

The biggest draw here is the Railay beach. Cut off from the mainland, it almost feels like a private island. And the beach has a number of luxury resorts and bungalows lining them.

Where’s the catch?

Apart from lounging on the beaches, kayaking and rock climbing, there isn’t a lot to do here.
The only way of reaching Railay is by a boat from Ao Nang. Since it is pretty much cut off from the rest of Krabi, accessibility can be an issue. Also, the prices of accommodation also tend to be on the slightly higher side.
